Continuous Light, Use it

Working with continuous light and understanding can be such a great tool in your arsenal regarding photography. With a recent photo walk spooned by ProCam, I had the chance to work a practice working with continuous light.

Things happen for a reason, and thinking needs to take place first before you press click. In the example above, we had the model sit down at the steps. It’s night time in Chicago. We had a street light behind her and a streetlight off to the left of her in the distance. No flash was allowed (Chicago would not let us). When I took the first picture, I noted that there was not enough light on her face. With that in mind, out came my Ice Light to place more light on her face.

What I like about this picture is that it looks natural. Meaning that it seems like the street light is lighting her. I help improve the streetlight with continuous light. My camera is the Canon EOS R, 50mm at 1.2 and ISO of 1600. Remember, when adding light, think about why, what direction, and how much, as I said earlier, just—another tool in my photography toolbox.
