Taking engagement pictures can be so much fun and so much resource before their big day. It’s one time you don’t have a lot of pressure and get to know the couple. Likes and dislikes. It gets to know their comfort level and what may not be so comfortable.
We did send out a survey to find out what they would be interested in. Meaning, how are you going to use these pictures. Are they going to be on a wall as prints, Save The Date, an album? Once we know the answer, then we know what to shoot.

The sun was high and harsh. With that in mind, I had an idea of what I wanted. I am a big fan of lights, and during this time, I used mostly a 3 light setting: two flashes and the sun. The sun made a big difference in how and where I was going to take their pictures. The nice thing this day is was the weather was nice and comfortable for pictures. We spend about 2 hours in two locations. I had some ideas about what I wanted to do, but a lot comes to me as I see things for me. When I think I am done, I see another opportunity. The pictures are sent to their gallery for them to pick, and for me, I took notes of the day to get ready for their wedding. What works and what did not work.
