Self Assignment and getting out of your Comfort Zone
I am a fan of KelbyOne, an education site for photographers. Recently Scott did a session on Black and White Fine Art. This gave me the idea that I wanted to do this but instead of a huge city that I do it in my small town. With that said, my thought was doing buildings of interest or historical.
Two things that I seldom do. One is Black and White Photography; the second is doing architect. The day was perfect for this kind of shooting. Sunny, little to no clouds and shooting at 1 pm. All the things that they say you should not do. Hot and humid went for a walk around the area and started shooting in Monochrome mode on my camera, which does not matter because I shoot 95% of the time in raw. Meaning while I can see it in black and white, I can also see it in post in color. Using my Canon EOS R with a 24- 105 lens, I had so much fun with this project.
After spending about 2 hours of shooting, Now it was time for the art. Using mainly Photoshop and Camera Raw, I begin putting my style on the things that I took pictures of. Highlighting the light that present and add your flavor.
What I learned was getting more comfortable with Black and White. Another quiver for when I go out to travel, and ideal conditions are not there. Last, I was never that good in art. But with the help of Photoshop, I am doing things that I had in my imagination, but could never do it with my hands. Earlier this year, my goal was to be more creative, and I feel I am heading in that direction. Self assignments are good. One practice is so essential, but second learning Is the key to having fun. At least for me. Growing is the key. I am doing things; I never thought I would be doing.
Looking forward to the next project I will be doing.
